Calgary Stampede Showband
The Calgary Stampede Showband was created in 1971 to serve as the musical ambassadors for the Calgary Stampede. Since that time, the band has become known worldwide and achieved many distinguished accomplishments and awards. Currently, the group features over 150 performers between the ages of 16 and 22 and performs year-round, making nearly 200 appearances annually. The Showband is a very diverse performing ensemble, with performance types ranging from standstill concerts, parades, field show competitions, special events, and almost anything else, from a soloist to a rock band. The Showband members and staff are proud promoters of western heritage and values, and are committed to a high level of innovative performance art.
The Stampede Showband program is designed to develop youth within the performing arts and encourage each member to achieve musical, performance, and personal excellence. Our members develop athleticism, artistry, and the confidence that comes from honing skills through hard work and persistence.
Some of the accolades that the Showband has earned since its inception in 1971 are: The Sudler Shield from the John Philip Sousa Foundation; competed multiple times in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Holland; competed many times at the Drum Corps International SoundSport, Drumline Battle, and Open/World Class events; has appeared 4-times in the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California; and is a seven-time World Champion of Marching Show Bands.
