How We're Doing it

Connection to Nature

At the Calgary Stampede, Pride of Place is not just a value, it's a commitment to our community and to nature!

On Stampede Park
For over 110 years we have been stewards of Stampede Park, which houses 35 acres of naturalized space nestled along the Elbow River. Rich with biodiversity, native vegetation and local pollinators, these land and aquatic ecosystems are protected and continue to thrive due to numerous ongoing conservation programs and partnerships.

Beyond Stampede Park
Stampede is also a steward of two Alberta ranches which boast a combined 31,000 plus acres of naturalized protected grasslands. These multi-functional ranches support native prairie biodiversity, help raise a healthy bucking horse and cattle stock and provide educational opportunities for nearly a thousand rural and urban youth to engage in real-world learning.

Responsible Use of Resources

The Calgary Stampede is committed to responsible and ethical management of resources including energy, waste, water and food.

Responsibility starts with managing waste. Over 85% of materials used on park are diverted from the landfill. We partner with local organizations to responsibly recycle and reuse over 14 different material streams such as wood, metal, organics, textiles and much more.

The Calgary Stampede is proud of its agricultural roots. By offering fresh food sourced from our local producers, we’re able to serve up a truly authentic western culinary experience. Our Grown Right. Here. program is one of our many environment and sustainability initiatives, which supports our commitment to sourcing sustainable and delicious food all while giving back to the community.

Support Local

Community is at the heart of what we do at the Stampede.

Four million guests across more than 1,200 events gather on Stampede Park every year, including our annual festival in July. These year-round activities inject $540M annually into the Alberta economy, supporting thousands of jobs. We aim to celebrate and give back to the community in everything we do, whether it is preparing 100,000 donated meals to groups in need to upcycling our bedding waste to support local farmers.

We invest in youth, as stronger youth create a stronger community for the future. The Stampede delivers 10 unique year-round, on-park youth educational programs that support over 30,000 students from rural and urban classrooms across Alberta in professional development and sustainability-related programming.
